Where Every Family Matters

Alzheimer’s Series Continues at Franklin Library

As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect.

Join Lynn Wood at the Williamson County Public Library Franklin Branch as she presents “Effective Communication Strategies,” which teaches more about how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s.

The fifth program in the Alzheimer’s and Dementia series, a collaboration between the Library and the Alzheimer’s Association Tennessee Chapter, returns on Tuesday, August 22, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Library’s Meeting Room.

About Lynn Wood

Lynn Wood, a Caregiver Support Coordinator, Certified Dementia Specialist and member of the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, explains the do’s and don’ts of communicating with someone living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. Learn how to use those communication skills to help redirect certain behaviors and decipher what our loved one may be trying to tell us.

Lynn has spent the last 20 years working with older adults and their families experiencing life after an Alzheimer’s or dementia diagnosis. She found passion in her work with families during an emotional time in their lives, trying to make urgent, long-term care decisions for a loved one. This is where Lynn found value in her work and she continued this path working in assisted living memory care settings.

In October 2018, she joined Mental Health America of the MidSouth as the Caregiver Support Coordinator. She is a Certified Dementia Specialist with PAC (Positive Approach to Care) and member of the NCCDP (National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners). Although Lynn loves presenting to the community, her focus is meeting one-on-one with families and caring for the caregiver.

The Alzheimer’s and Dementia programs are on the fourth Tuesday of each month, April through September, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Franklin Library in the Meeting Room on the first floor. All Library programs are free and open to the public.

Registration for “Effective Communication Strategies” is requested at bit.ly/AlzProgram5 to ensure a seat. Call the Library at 615-595-1243 or email reference.library@williamsoncounty-tn.gov if you have questions or need assistance registering.
