Grain of Sand Academy is a nonprofit organization offering innovative support and therapeutic services for children and teens with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including at its countryside location on Muriel’s Farm.
Mission & Philosophy
The academy’s mission is to help children with autism develop mindful self?regulation skills and become lifelong learners. It combines evidence?based therapies, such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT), with holistic, nature?integrated approaches that focus on emotional regulation, motor skills, communication, and confidence building.
Muriel’s Farm — Therapeutic Horsemanship & Natural Learning
At the Eagleville location, Grain of Sand Academy offers therapeutic horsemanship programs and equine?assisted learning experiences. Children work with horses and other farm animals guided by certified instructors and licensed therapists. Programs are designed to:
- Provide calming sensory experiences and emotional regulation through interaction with horses
- Improve communication, motor coordination, confidence, and social skills
- Connect children with nature and animal care activities to support developmental growth
Programs range from introductory four?session experiences to extended 15?session pathways that build deeper skills and long-term progress.
Additional Offerings & Community Engagement
Muriel’s Farm also hosts field trips, summer camps, and special events tailored for children with autism and their families, with small group sizes to ensure individualized support.
Education & Resources
Grain of Sand Academy also shares resources on child development, autism research, and effective intervention strategies to empower parents, caregivers, and educators.
