"You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children," says superstar country music legend/actress/philanthropist and Tennessee native Dolly Parton. Dolly's passion for literacy led her to create Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in 1995. Inspired by her own father, Dolly's book gifting organization has to date mailed more than 80 million free books to children in the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. Each month, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library mails more than 955,000 specially selected, high-quality, age-appropriate books to children from birth to 5 years in participating communities. Registering your child is easy — simply log onto imaginationlibrary.com and follow the registration steps to have books arrive in your mailbox for your child. You can also help support Dolly Parton's Imagination Library while taking Dolly with you everywhere you drive by way of the new Dolly Parton license plate. Only available to residents of Tennessee, Imagination Library is pre-selling the $35 plate — a minimum of 1,000 pre-orders are required for it to go into production; as of this post, more than 780 plates have been ordered. Once the 1,000-plate pre-order requirement is met, it will take an estimated four to six months for the new plates to be ready for pick up at your local county clerk's office. Of the $35 license plate fee, $15.375 of the fee benefits Dolly Parton's Imagination Library efforts right here in the Volunteer State, helping to get more books into the hands of more little Tennesseans.
