Nashville Children’s Theatre (25 Middleton St., Nashville) presents The Diary of Anne Frank on select Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 10 – Oct. 2. This powerful adaption for a current generation brings new life to the story of Anne Frank, a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl who lived through the 1942 Nazi occupation of Holland. In addition, the show is accompanied by the exhibit Let Me Be Myself: The Story of Anne Frank. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for youth.
More about The Diary of Anne Frank
Anne Frank’s account, told through her extraordinary diary, is a compelling self-portrait of a young writer whose promising life was tragically cut short and it continues to serve as an essential part of how we remember one of the darkest periods of human history. It tracks the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, capturing the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence while also painting a coming-of-age story about a spirited young woman.
About the exhibit Let Me Be Myself: The Story of Anne Frank
This guided visiting exhibit from the Anne Frank Center discusses the life and struggles of Anne Frank from her birth in Frankfort, Germany in 1929 to her death in the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp in 1945. It then jumps forward to the present, creating a personalized experience that has visitors learning about their own individual identities and how people continue to face discrimination and exclusion today.
Tips for Bringing Littles to a Show
— Let your child know what to expect. Tell them if it will be dark or loud or crowded. Let them know that they need to be quiet (or at least whisper).
— If you’re going with more than one child, bring a buddy. One person can take a child to the bathroom, get snacks, or make a getaway with a child who is melting down while the other stays with the rest of the children.
— Be prepared. Bring your standard diaper bag gear.
