Where Every Family Matters

Happy New Year! Celebrate with the kids at home and stay safe!

Grand Ways to Ring In 2022 at Home With the Fam

We're told people should be staying home for New Year's Eve with Omicron spiking in our area. That's OK, have a ball anyway!

Here comes 2022! And with the Omicron variant surging in our area, many, many families will choose to play it safe and stay home this year. But that doesn’t mean you have to sit around and mope. Staying home is easier, less expensive and can be a blast if you aim to make it one. We’ve got ideas:

Have a good time as a group by watching some of television’s New Year’s Eve celebrations (and keeping it on in the background as you carry on at home).

How to Watch Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on TV

If you want to watch Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on TV.

Start Time: 7 p.m. C/T

Network: ABC

You can watch Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on ABC with most basic cable packages, or with a digital antenna (like this one from Amazon), which picks up all the major networks, including your local ABC affiliate.

End the year with fun and competition.

Gather everyone at home to start a board game marathon. Let everyone choose a game of choice. Play board games that will not take longer than an hour so you don’t all get burned out on games … like Jenga, Uno, Battleship, Guess Who, Connect Four and Scrabble. Gather small rewards for winners.

Graze Your Way Through Dinner

Don’t stress out over fancy dinner preparations. Make it easy and fun for everyone by doing an appetizer board and setting it out early, adding different ones as the night progresses. Ideas:

• caprese skewers
• charcuterie board (doesn’t everyone know this by now?!)
• onion dip & chips
• cocktail meatballs or weenies
• buffalo chicken dip
• artichoke spinach dip
• queso & nachos
• baked brie with a special topping melted on top served with bread

Let the Kids Stay Up Past Their Bedtime

They beg and plead for this moment so let them. Get in the jammies anytime and just hang out. When the moment comes for the ball to drop in NYC, let the kids run outside and make noise, banging pots and pans. And when midnight strikes in central time, let them do it again. Crack the sparkling grape juice and toast the new year!
