Where Every Family Matters

Middle TN Highland Games & Celtic Festival to Return

The annual family-friendly festival returns to Hendersonville's Sanders Ferry Park celebrating Scottish and Celtic athletics and traditions.

The annual Middle Tennessee Highland Games & Celtic Festival returns on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8 at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville.

This annual festival brings together families to learn, appreciate, preserve and celebrate the Scottish and Celtic traditions — some of which played a part in settling the state of Tennessee. Past attendees have even found a piece of their own ancestry after talking with some of the 60 Scottish families/clans at the festival.

There will be a full slate of music, including solo piping, drumming and pipe band competitions, as well as national touring bands and local artists playing throughout the day for a full weekend of music for attendees to enjoy. Plus, (new for this year!) check out a sanctioned Highland Dance Competition on Saturday, September 7.

Within the festival are Scottish Highland athletic competitions for male and female athletes, including:

  • Stone Put
  • Caber Toss
  • Hammer Throw
  • Sheaf Toss
  • Weight Throws

Bring your blanket and lawn chairs to cheer on these athletes as they compete for medals.

For the full Celtic experience, traditional food and drinks will be available for purchase in addition to some of your favorite local food trucks. There will also be a Celtic Market with unique vendors providing a glimpse into the culture and special gifts for friends and family.

Plus, there will be two Scotch Tasting events featuring six total tastings from Glennfiddich, Grant’s Blended Scotch Whisky, The Balvenie and Monkey Shoulder on Saturday, September 7 at 11 am and 1 pm. Tickets are $50 per tasting and are available for purchase here.

For the kids!

Tickets include a kids’ cultural activity area with mini Celtic games and crafts, everyone’s favorite characters for storytimes, quidditch and archery.

Plus, families can collect passport stamps at the Family Clans Village throughout the weekend to turn it in for a medal.
