Nashville Children’s Theatre Announces 2023-24 Season

Fun Snuggery productions for the Littles and lots more plus ... "Finding Nemo!" Reserve school trips now!

Nashville Children’s Theatre (NCT) announces its 2023 – 24 season, comprised of six productions, five of which are world premieres for family audiences.
    “Whether playing on the basketball court or swimming in the deep blue ocean, our heroes this season celebrate and embrace their unique qualities and personalities,” says Executive Artistic Director Ernie Nolan. “They face the worlds they live in and announce, ‘I am courageously me!’”

First Up: A Snuggery Production for the Littles

Opening August 12, 2023 in the NCT Snuggery, THREE LITTLE KITTENS, created and directed by Nolan. This detective game with “cat-titude.” Tthree little kittens discover they’re missing their mittens. They embark on an adventure to find them before Mother Cat finds out. This interactive play takes little ones on a journey with unexpected friendships and fun adventures.

“Strong Inside”

The first production in NCT’s Hill Auditorium is the world premiere of STRONG INSIDE, adapted by Tyrone L. Robinson from the New York Times best-selling book by Andrew Maraniss. This is the true story of Nashville native Perry Wallace who was recruited and accepted to Vanderbilt University for basketball. Wallace makes history as the first African American to play the sport in the Southeastern Conference. Directed by the adapter, Robinson, this hero’s story runs September 3 – 26, 2023.

“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”

Opening for the holidays, is the world premiere of the young audience version of Roald Dahl’s CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY.  The show, running Nov. 4 – Dec. 17 includes music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman and book by David Greig.
    Young Charlie Bucket and four other golden-ticket winners embark on a journey through Willie Wonka’s world of pure imagination including chocolate waterfalls, nutty squirrels and a great glass elevator, all revealed by Wonka’s curious Oompa-Loompas. 

“The Gingerbread Man” Gets a Remix

Next up (Jan. 27 – Feb. 25, 2024) is THE GINGERBREAD KID, a pop music fairy tale with music by Jodi Marr and book and lyrics by Abe Reybold. It’s a re-imagined gingerbread man story and NCT’s third world premiere of the season. When the magical child of a baking couple accidentally eats the parents’ sweets, they run away as fast as they can from the consequences. 

Peter Rabbit Hops in for Easter

Running March 9 – June 30, 2024 is THE FLOPSY BUNNIES: A PETER RABBIT ADVENTURE. In yet another world premiere, this is a take based on Beatrix Potter’s bunnies. Join Mama Bunny as she travels to Mr. MacGregor’s garden following a trail of lettuce in an interactive, immersive play especially designed for the very young.

“Finding Nemo”

Making a splash to wrap up the season (and playing April 6 – May 19, 2024) is the young audience world premiere of Disney’s FINDING NEMO.  With music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the book has been adapted by Lindsay Anderson. The 2003 Pixar movie Finding Nemo comes to life on stage with new music by the award-winning songwriting team of Frozen.
