Nashville to Host 2034 Special Olympics

Thousands of athletes will compete and showcase inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities.

Nashville has been selected as the host city for the 2034 Special Olympics USA Games.

According to officials, the event is set to bring 4,000 athletes, 100,000 visitors and a $100 million economic impact to Middle Tennessee.

The bid process received support from all 50 states supporting Nashville as the host, with support from the likes of Nate Bargatze, Lainey Wilson, Lauren Daigle, Roman Josi, Walker Zimmerman and Special Olympics Alumni Ambassador Scott Hamilton, all voicing their support for the bid.

Jimmy Clark, one of the many athletes represented at Wednesday’s event, shared his experience as an athlete with News 2. He has spent the last 20 years competing in the Special Olympics and is also a gold medalist powerlifter.

“Signing that contract was huge just to be able to make it official,” Clark said. “To know that I and other athletes can compete in our very own state is an honor.”

Team Tennessee is getting prepared to compete in the 2026 USA Games in Minneapolis. Prior to Nashville hosting the Games, Cleveland will host the 2030 Games.
