Last Saturday, my toddler and I did a little mid-morning 'star-gazing' when we caught the opening weekend of Nashville Children's Theatre's Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.  A unique twist on the childhood classic, the show is an interactive, magical journey from the start to the very last twinkle. Did I mention the entire production is geared toward children 5 and under? It's called the Snuggery.

NCT's SNUGGERY

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star kicks off NCT's first 'Snuggery,' experience for toddlers.  Snuggery is defined as "a comfortable or cozy room; a cultural and creative experience for the very young on their own terms." The Snuggery takes place in a "wiggle welcome zone" inside the theatre's Copeland Studio. Kids can dance, jump, and move about during the performance. The show perfectly balances dialogue and singing so toddlers are always engaged. Adults will be enchanted; this isn't your 'run of the mill' Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star adventure.

The two-man show features characters "Glimmer" and "Sparkle," who charm the entire room so that children can interact directly with the show's 'stars.'  There are no bad seats in this intimate setting. You're welcome to sit front and center on a mat, or a little to the back in a chair. If your child is a bit apprehensive in the new space, you can watch from the Snuggery's comfort room — a thoughtful touch. Since the show's running time is just under an hour, my 19 month-old stayed captivated the entire time.

PARTICULARS

Tickets are 10 dollars each for adults and children. Parking is free and located right outside the theatre. Stroller parking is available and free, as is complimentary Bongo Java coffee for the adults(!). If you happen to get there a little early, have no fear!  There are toys for little ones in the lobby to keep them occupied before the show begins. Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star runs August 11 – September 9. Like my favorite little star, NCT's twinkle shines bright and is a must-not-miss for Nashville parents and littles alike.
