Missed your chance to run in the popular Special Kids Race last year? Sign up now while early bird registration is open — the race is known to sell out! There are only a few days left before prices increase on Jan. 15 for the 6th Annual Special Kids Race, an annual fundraiser for the local nonprofit Special Kids Therapy & Nursing Center presented by Murfreesboro Medical Clinic & Surgicenter (MMC). There are three race distances for all levels of participants to choose from, too — 15K, 5K or 1 Mile Family Fun Run. You can even push a stroller in any of the three distances, too. Registration space is limited to the first 3,250 participants.
The race takes place Saturday, April 8 and begins and ends in front of the new MMC building, located at 1272 Garrison Drive, Murfreesboro. You can either join the “impact Special Kids,” an online fundraising community that helps supporters (individuals or teams) turn their creative fundraising ideas into a reality, or the “corporate challenge,” where businesses are encouraged to pay for their employees’ registration and to commit to raising funds for Special Kids (there will be prizes given out this year to corporate challenge teams for fundraising). The 15K starts at 7 a.m., 5K starts at 7:20 a.m. and the 1 Mile Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $40 for the 15K, $35 for the 5K and $20 for the 1 Mile Fun Run (add $5 to each race distance after Jan. 15).
In a recent press release, Stephanie Folkmann, Special Kids director of development, says, “We are looking forward to our sixth year of this event. Our hope is that the community and businesses will take hold of these fundraising opportunities to come together for the kids.”
Special Kids is a Christian therapy and nursing center for ages birth to 21 with special needs that provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, feeding therapy, nursing services, recreational therapy, a peer modeling program and a summer day camp.
