After 21 years of service in teaching, retired educator Laurie Mitchell and her former student, Jeremy Painter, co-founded this unique summer camp experience at the University of North Alabama in Florence, AL.
After two successful years, the fun and high-energy weeklong experience for rising 1st through 12th grade students is expanding to the greater Nashville area with an additional camp running July 6-10, 2026, at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.
According to Painter, campers learn how to encourage each other, work as a team, take creative risks and grow in confidence with every rehearsal.
“During the week, students sing, dance, rehearse and perform together,” Painter says. “But what happens here reaches far beyond the stage. “It’s a place where new friendships form quickly, where laughter echoes down the hallways and where every student is invited to bring their full self into the room.”

Spotlighters Show Choir Campers build vocal technique, learn parts, explore choreography and more.
The summer camp experience culminates with an exclusive ticketed finale performance for friends and family that showcases each camper’s learning and growth.
“By the end of the week, they’re not just performing together. They’re shining together,” Painter continues. “And they leave carrying that spark with them long after the curtain falls.”
The inaugural camp at MTSU has a limit of 100 kids and will feature show choir teams for five specific age groups: rising 1st & 2nd graders, rising 3rd & 4th graders, rising 5th & 6th graders, rising 7th & graders and rising 9th through 12th graders.
Registration is now open and costs $475 per camper. For more information or to register, visit spotlighterscamp.com/nashville.
