Despite an unprecedented pandemic, Music City Kids Club will celebrate their first birthday this week.

Opening August of 2019, Music City Kids Club was the very first to offer drop-in childcare for children ages 13 months to 12 years of age in Sumner County. And, based on numbers, it was a much needed service for local families. MCKC currently has 864 children on their roster, serving 513 families and has provided roughly 14,174 hours of child care in a year’s time. And those numbers continue to grow.

The company was created by Middle Tennessee locals Allison Lanquist and her husband Trey Hannah in 2018 when they recognized the huge gap in flexible child care in the Sumner County area.

“Trey and I were driving to other parts of Middle Tennessee to utilize drop-in child care for our son and recognized that this was a service that parents needed,” said Ms. Lanquist. “Reliable and trustworthy child care is hard to come by and after we had to give away $300 worth of concert tickets when a babysitter canceled last minute, I knew there had to be a better way,”

So, they started Music City Kids Club and found a home in the Hobby Lobby Shopping Center of the Indian Lake area.

Drop in child care offers parents the opportunity to drop their children off in a safe, state-licensed environment so they can play while the adults do errands, enjoy a date night or any other activity that they might need to attend to child-free. While day cares serve the purpose of child care during standard working hours, drop in child care have extended, flexible hours to help with more casual, short-term needs. It is a perfect solution for those who work odd shifts or even those that do not have traditional babysitter resources.

According to the Small Business Administration, “twenty percent of small businesses fail in the first year,” and considering all the challenges that small businesses have faced due to Covid-19, this is a huge accomplishment.

In celebration of their 1st Birthday, the first 50 kids who drop in this week will receive their choice of a t-shirt, beach ball or backpack during their visit. Other giveaways will also take place to include chances for free childcare.
