Volunteer for Park Day 2017

Get outdoors this weekend to enjoy the weather and the scenery while also teaming up with others to volunteer to clean up and help preserve our parks and greenways.

We want to see our green parks kept nice and clean, right? You can help with that at any time, really. However, you can be a part of something big this weekend!

Park Day 2017 takes place Saturday, April 1 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Old Fort Park (Pavilion #2). On this day, community members of all ages and abilities from all over team up with the Civil War Trust at more than 130 sites in 30 states for Park Day. Stones River National Battlefield and Murfreesboro Parks & Rec seek volunteers for this year’s Park Day event. While volunteering your time, you’ll be helping clean up Old Fort Park, the National Battlefield and the Murfreesboro Greenway System by removing invasive plants. Come dressed and ready to get dirty! In addition, refreshments will be provided free of charge thanks to Wal-Mart and The Friends of Stones River National Battlefield.

β€œPark Day is a great way to give back to our parks and community, and many students are able to earn volunteer credits at this event,” said Jim Lewis, Chief of Interpretation, Education & Cultural Resource Management at Stones River National Battlefield. β€œIt’s amazing how much we can accomplish in a short period of time with a large group of volunteers.”
