Friday, April 1 is the deadline for turning in student applications for the 2016 Williamson County Fair Scholarships
If your high school senior exhibited an entry or volunteered at The Williamson County Fair in years past, he or she may be eligible for the 2016 Williamson County Fair Scholarship. As in years past, The Williamson County Fair will award two or more one-year scholarships for 2016 with the total monies not to exceed $4,000, and paid after the recipients complete their first college semester achieving at least a 2.75 GPA. The scholarship will be paid directly to the college or university where the student(s) are enrolled.
This will be the fourth year for the Fair Scholarship which began in 2013. Past recipients include for 2015: Jeremiah Daniels (MTSU), Julianna Jones (UT Chattanooga) and Hayley Ann Slade (Columbia State Community College); for 2014: Victoria Schweer (UT Chattanooga) and Christopher Stanley (University of Tennessee); for 2013: Katy Sanders (UT Martin), Laura Darnell (Independence High), Holly Stewart (Columbia State Community College), Thomas Itin (Tulane University), Olivia Cesnik (Page High School), and Lindsey Landrum (University of Mississippi).
“It is important for our youth to realize the value of being involved in their community,” said Rogers Anderson, chairman of the Williamson County Fair Board. “Providing some scholarship funds as a token of appreciation for their involvement with the fair is one way we can acknowledge their service and show how much we appreciate them,” he added.
Requirements for the 2016 Williamson County Fair Scholarship:
• Be a graduating high school senior residing in Williamson County
• Have at least a cumulative 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale in high school
• Be accepted to a college or institution of higher learning of choice and attend as a full-time student
• Have exhibited entries and/or volunteered at the fair
• Complete a 300-word essay and/or a personal interview (at the Scholarship Committee’s discretion) on “The Benefits of a County Fair.”
• Provide two reference letters (one from a high school faculty member and one from an individual from the fair community)
• Provide an official high school transcript reflecting the cumulative GPA
• Compete the application in its entirety with signature of applicant and school official
• Return application along with essay, reference letters and transcript, postmarked no later than April 1, 2016
Scholarship criteria:
Williamson County Fair Participation: 50%
Academics: 20%
Extracurricular Activities: 10%
Financial Need: 10%
Essay/Interview: 10%
