Fire & Rescue to Host Teen Fire Academy

Get fired up for this fun camp that teaches teens what it takes to become a firefighter.

Can your teen take the heat? Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue’s four-day fire Teen Fire Academy will be held at the Doug Young Public Safety Training Center (701 Bridge Ave., Murfreesboro) on June 20 – 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

About Teen Fire Academy

The fire academy teaches cadets about the fire service, teamwork, leadership skills and sparks interest in becoming a firefighter.

The Teen Firefighter Academy provides practical training that teaches skills and abilities in firefighting. Teen cadets learn fire extinguisher training, hose stream, equipment use and tour a fire station and dispatch center. They will also watch several demonstrations, including:

  • extrication
  • fire investigation
  • search & rescue
  • live fire
  • repelling

The cost of the camp is $25 per teen cadet. Space is limited and open to 20 applicants. At the end of the fire academy, the teens will participate in a graduation ceremony.
