Brentwood Academy board chair and school alum Buddy Bacon announced Dr. John Patterson as the next Head of School. Dr. Patterson will assume the role July 1, 2025. This hire marks only the third head of school in the 55-year history of Brentwood Academy.
Dr. John Patterson will step into the role after longtime head of school Curt Masters announced he would retire at the end of the school year, marking the end of his 25-year tenure. Founding headmaster Mr. Bill Brown served in the role for the prior 31 years. The Board engaged JobFit Matters to lead the nationwide search which spanned over nine months.
“This is an exciting time for Brentwood Academy, as Dr. Patterson is respected nationally as a passionate advocate for Christian education. He is a man of integrity and great character whose leadership in previous positions has led to great growth and success. We are confident Dr. Patterson will lead Brentwood Academy during this exciting time of growth while upholding the mission, values, and traditions of our school. Thank you to Nathan Brandon, chair of the search committee, and the entire committee, who tirelessly led the search for our new head of school both prayerfully and professionally,” shares Bacon.
Dr. Patterson is the current Head of School at First Presbyterian Day School (FPD) in Macon, GA where he has served since 2020. Prior to FPD, he served as the Head of School at Liberty Christian Academy, in Lynchburg, VA, from 2010 to 2020. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in System Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was a Dean’s List Student, Wreath Award Winner, and four-year member of the men’s Division 1 basketball team. Dr. Patterson, a combat veteran, served as an Active Duty Officer in the United States Army from 1996-2001 and participated in Operation Desert Fox in the Republic of Iraq. Following his active-duty experience, Dr. Patterson spent a few years in corporate medical business strategy and product development and then followed his wife, Cindy Patterson into the field of education. He served as an upper level math instructor, basketball coach (in public and private
education), Assistant Head of School, and Head of School. Dr. Patterson earned his Doctorate of Education from Liberty University in Educational Leadership.
Dr. Patterson shares, “I am deeply honored and humbled to follow in the legacy of Mr. Bill Brown and Mr. Curt Masters. Like those men of Godly integrity, I believe in the mission of Brentwood Academy as we dedicate our work to the body, mind, and spirit of every student. I thank God for the opportunity, and I look forward to serving the Board of Trustees, the BA Faculty and Staff, and our students and families. GO Eagles!”
