Free Kids’ Fishing Rodeos June 6 + Free Fishing Week

On Saturday, June 6, lots of Middle Tennessee fishin’ holes invite youngsters to cast a line free of charge.

Few memories stick out as clearly as catching that first fish! Take your kids out to fish on Saturday June 6 during Tennessee’s Bobby Wilson Free Fishing Day! Offered by the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency’s (TWRA), kids ages 15 and younger can fish in local fishing rodeos on Saturday, June 6 and for free all week long until Friday, June 12.

Of course, a fishing rodeo lets kid compete to catch the most, the biggest or a specific prize-winning fish. Here’s where to go this Saturday:

Located at the Dog Trail Area. Enter the gated entrance, drive straight back, follow the gravel road left to the pond. Bring your own pole, tackle and bait.

Special Needs: Friday, June 5 from 5 – 7 p.m.
General Public: Saturday, June 6 from 7:30 – 11 a.m.

Where to Cast a Line in the Nashville Area

Since there’s free fishing for kids all week long, head to a local spot on your own, consider these excellent locations:
    • Two Rivers Park: Features great bank-fishing access near the Cumberland River.
    • Percy Priest Lake: Smith Springs Park in nearby Hermitage offers beautiful coves and accessible banks.
    • Shelby Park: Offers excellent fishing opportunities on the east side of Nashville. 
    • Harpeth River State Park – Narrows of the Harpeth: Located at 1300 Narrows of the Harpeth Road in Kingston Springs
    • Harpeth River’s Hidden Lake – 7851 McCrory Lane, Nashville
    • Harpeth River State Park – Newsom’s Mill – 8729 Newsom Station Road, Nashville
    • Pinkerton Park – 405 Murfreesboro Road, Franklin
    • Willow Pond: Located right off Highway 100 in Percy Warner Park, this is a highly accessible, family-friendly pond.
    • Statewide State Parks: You can visit any Tennessee State Park to take advantage of license-free fishing and local family events
