Where Every Family Matters

Make Music Day Murfreesboro

The free worldwide celebration, Make Music Day, is available in Murfreesboro, too!

Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

Be a part of it all in Rutherford County with the Murfreesboro Community Rhythm Event. It takes place Thursday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Old Fort Park between the playground and outdoor tennis courts. It’s free to participate, too. All ages can join the session or just watch and dance along to the music. Bring your own drums, shakers, tambourines, wood blocks or percussive instruments of any type. No instrument? No problem! Even those who have no instrument may come out and use one from the extensive Everybody Drum Some collection.

Old Fort Park is located at 1025 Old Fort Pkwy., Murfreesboro. Learn more about Make Music Day at makemusicday.org.
