Nashville Symphony Young People’s Concerts

Free music by the Nashville Symphony for local K-12 students at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Plus, an educational curriculum to enhance the experience.

The Nashville Symphony offers several educational opportunities for local kids throughout the year. Specific to school kids in grades K – 12 are the Young People’s Concerts.

Each installment is free for public, private and homeschool students. Tickets are $10 for chaperones and teachers. The 2017-2018 Young People’s Concert schedule is as follows:

PETER AND THE WOLF
Oct. 11 & 20
10:15 & 11:45 a.m.
Grades 3 – 4
Sergei Prokofiev’s classic comes to life with the Nashville Symphony and live narration.

THE BRASS FAMILY
Feb. 7 – 8
10:15 & 11:45 a.m.
Grades K – 2
Nashville Symphony introduces kids to the brass family of instruments by performing pieces from Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture,” Coplands “Fanfare for the Common Man,” Handy’s “St. Louis Blues” and more.

THE EARTH — AN HD ODYSSEY

High definition images of Earth taken from NASA missions are the backdrop to music by John Adams and Strauss.

COMPOSERS OF HOPE
Feb. 28 & March 1, 2018

Grades 5 – 8
The Nashville Symphony performs music by composers who overcame great obstacles to create the timeless music they gave to the world.

In addition to the free concerts for concerts, Nashville Symphony provides a downloadable curriculum that teachers and homeschool parents can access. The curriculum includes lesson plans, music selections and the “Let’s Go to the Symphony” video. The educational content meets all state and local academic standards.
