Kids ages 6 - 16 can engage their creativity with hands-on visual art camps in June and July.

Kids can enjoy a creative burst this June and July through a smorgasbord of summer art camps available at Monthaven Arts & Cultural Center (MACC) in Hendersonville. The camps for ages 6 – 16 run in one-week sessions, June 3 – July 26 (no camps July 1 – 5 in observance of Independence Day).

ARTopia is available during several weeks throughout the summer for ages 6 – 10. Kids will create art in various mediums like painting, sculpting with clay, papier-mache and drawing.

Other offerings include digital art (ages 12 – 16), creating comics (ages 12 – 16), abstract painting (ages 8+), fabric and textile art (ages 10 – 14), basic short filmmaking (ages 12 – 16), creative art journaling (ages 8+), performance art (ages 7+), exploring science through art (ages 10+) and more.

WHY THE ARTS ARE IMPORTANT FOR KIDS

"The arts empower. The arts give a voice to the voiceless. The arts help transform American communities and, as I often say, the result can be a better child, a better town, a better nation and certainly a better world," says Robert L. Lynch, president/CEO for Americans for the Arts.

One of the valuable benefits of any visual arts education is the focus on creativity. Kids who participate in art routinely use their creativity to solve problems and express their ideas. The visual art arena helps develop and nurture children's creative capabilities, which are vitally important as they grow into adulthood and enter the workforce and become leaders.
