Where Every Family Matters

SE-YA Book Fest Returns!

Do you have a bookworm in the family? No? Well, maybe a little inspiration from the annual SE-YA Book Fest could help.

The Southeastern Young Adult (SE-YA) Book Fest returns March 7 – 9. This free, one-of-a kind event takes place at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro (1301 East Main St.). It places teens and authors of young adult literature in a setting to interact about what they love most — YA lit! The SE-YA Book Festival's primary goal is to encourage and develop literacy in young adults. It's done by connecting them with authors, thereby advancing education in the community. What better way to do that than to have a little fun?

You can buy books onsite and get the author's signature — authors sign up to three books per person. Rolling carts and suitcases are not allowed. You may also take a photo with the author, but please ask permission first!

You can also register for the free writing workshop on Saturday, March 9. There are five different writing workshop that take place from 9 – 10:30 a.m. in different rooms.

Workshops include:

  • Writing Emotionally Authentic Characters (grades 9 – 12)
  • Writing for Justice: The Power of Nonfiction (all ages)
  • Turning an Idea into a Book (grades 7 – 12)
  • SE-YA Poetry Palooza (all ages)
  • Novel Ideas (grades 6 – 8).

If you plan to attend, March 7 – 8 are school student days and registration is required in advance. It's open 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. However, public day is Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
