Nashville Shakespeare Festival rolls out a new program for kids that allows them to be a part of this year’s Shakespeare in the Park production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
INTRODUCING ELF & FAIRY CAMP!
Elf & Fairy Camp for ages 6 – 12 takes place late summer with six sessions to choose from:
Session 1: Aug. 5 – 12
Session 2: Aug. 13 – 19
Session 3: Aug. 20 – 26
Session 4: Aug. 27 – Sept. 3
Session 5: Sept. 3 – 9
Session 6: Sept. 10 – 16 (in Franklin)
Training and rehearsals take place Mon – Wed from 3:30 – 6 p.m. Public performances take place Thu – Sun with a 6:20 p.m. call time and 7:30 p.m. show time (7 p.m. during the week in Franklin).
Students will receive an introduction to Shakespeare’s use of language and play through sonnets and songs. The kids will memorize one sonnet to be performed as part of the pre-show entertainment. Each child will have a role of Elf or Fairy in the Nashville Shakespeare Festival production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Participants will learn the “Fairy Song” and dance for the show, performing alongside the Apprentice Company and professionals.
The first five weeks of rehearsals in Nashville take place at the Nashville Public Television studios at 161 Rains Ave., Nashville. The Music City performances take place at the Centennial Park Bandshell.
Week six in Franklin takes place at Academy Park, 110 Everbright Ave.
Cost is $200 for the week, and there’s an option to perform in later show weekends.
