The Sumner County Foster Friendly Coalition organized by Tennessee Kids Belong will host its second annual Foster Care Community Day on Saturday, April 5 at Cross Point Hendersonville (1410 Stop Thirty Road) from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Foster Care Community Day will offer a fun-filled experience with free activities, food and giveaways for foster and kinship families. In addition, community partners like Foster Families Assistance Network, The Jason Foundation, Youth Villages and the I Can Project will be on-site to answer questions, provide resources and share ways the broader community can support children in foster care.
“We are thrilled to bring together families and community partners for a day of encouragement, connection and fun,” said Tiffany Kelley, Child Welfare Director of Tennessee Kids Belong. “Foster and kinship families face unique challenges and it’s essential for them to feel seen, valued and supported. This event is a great step in that direction.”
Sumner County is home to approximately 100 foster families caring for over 140 children in foster care. Tennessee Kids Belong partners with leaders in the business, faith and public sectors to improve the experiences and outcomes for kids in care. Without a strong community of support and resources like the Foster Friendly App, 50% of foster parents shut their homes within the first year.
“Foster families are making an incredible impact in the lives of kids who need stability and care,” said a representative from the Sumner County Foster Friendly Coalition. “This event is an opportunity for us all to show up, give back, and ensure these families know they are not alone.”
