All kids can enjoy summer camp activities and making new friends! The Center for Courageous Kids (CCK), a not-for-profit medical camp dedicated to empowering children with disabilities or lifelong illnesses is registering kids for summer camps now. CCK is also holding spring and fall family retreats. Nestled on 168 acres in Scottsville, Kentucky, CCK provides fun experiences for kids in an inclusive, focused environment – all at no cost, thanks to donors. Each summer session serves up to 128 campers and is tailored to specific needs.
Summer Camps for Special Kids
At The Center for Courageous Kids, campers engage in horseback riding, archery, swimming, boating and more. Everything is designed to foster confidence, independence and friendship. Family weekend retreats allow parents and siblings to get in on the fun.
“In a world where children with serious illnesses are often told ‘you can’t,’ at the Center for Courageous Kids, they can,” says Darren Dannelly, president and CEO of CCK.
Inspired by the loss of her son to cancer, Betty Turner Campbell founded CCK in 2008 to create a free, supportive space for children with life-threatening illnesses. The camp now serves more than 42,000 campers from 46 U.S. states and 13 countries. This carries Miss Betty’s vision of joy, normalcy and adventure forward.
“We believe every child deserves to experience the joy of summer camp regardless of medical condition or physical ability,” Dannelly says. “It is our mission to provide campers and their families the opportunity to simply play, explore and connect – experiences that can be rare for children with specialized needs.”
