Where Every Family Matters

Theatre Auditions this Month

Community theatre heats up the stage with two big auditions this month.

Put your child in the spotlight on stage with a role in an upcoming production. Auditions take place this month for "High School Musical Jr." and "The Nerd by Larry Shue."

High School Musical Jr. Auditions

The Disney Channel’s smash hit movie musical comes to life on the stage. Disney’s High School Musical Jr. is fun for the whole family — and kids ages 12 – 17 can be a part of the show. Perform Murfreesboro hosts auditions Feb. 13 and 15. Ages 12 – 14 audition at 5 p.m. with a monologue and song. Ages 15 – 17 audition at 6:30 p.m. with a monologue and song. Auditions on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. are for ages 12 – 17 for dance, gymnastic and cheer only. Auditions and performances are at The Washington Theatre. Head to Patterson Park Community Center at 521 Mercury Blvd., Murfreesboro. It's free to audition. But, if cast, you must pay the Perform Murfreesboro membership ($25 per fiscal year). Contact Susan Hicks, 615-893-7439, ext. 6104, shicks@murfreesborotn.gov for more info.

The Nerd by Larry Shue Auditions

The "nerd" is a bumbling oaf with no social sense. His lack of intelligence and tact leads to a hilarious event when he overstays his welcome. You can be a part of the show at the Arts Center of Cannon County (ACCC). Auditions are Feb. 3 – 4 at 6:30 p.m. There are roles available for four men and two women (ages 25 – 60) as well as one boy (ages 9 – 11). Auditions consist of group improv games and exercises. Expect to perform cold readings from the script, too.

Head to ACCC at 1424 John Bragg Hwy., Woodbury. Call 615-563-2787 or visit artscenterofcc.com. Contact Carol Reed at carol@artscenterofcc.com with questions or for more info.
