Our state’s history will come alive in a whole new way when the grand opening of the brand-new Tennessee State Museum (TSM) takes place on Thursday, Oct. 4. Sitting at the foot of Capital Hill at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, the new Tennessee State Museum is located at 1000 Rosa L. Parks Blvd., Nashville.
The 137,000-square-foot museum features the “Tennessee Time Tunnel,” a journey chronicling Tennessee’s history. It takes visitors through the museum’s permanent collection, a hands-on children’s gallery, six rotating exhibit galleries, a state-of-the-art digital learning center and the two-story Grand Hall. The children’s gallery is designed for hands-on exploration for ages 3 – 8. Kids can walk along a giant map of the state, learning along the way and even slide down “Lookout Mountain” when they get to Chattanooga.
The museum's regular hours are Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Thu 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Sun 1 – 5 p.m. Admission is free. Call 615-741-2692 or visit tnmuseum.org.
