11 Events at Discovery Center This March

Discover more fun this March at Murfreesboro's Discovery Center!

The Discovery Center celebrates its 38th birthday this month. There are special programs and events throughout March. The museum is located at 502 SE Broad St in Murfreesboro. Its hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit explorethedc.org. 

Here are a few events to look forward to at The Discovery Center this March:

1. Tasty Tuesdays

Tuesdays, 4:00 PM

Join us every Tuesday at 4 PM for Tasty Tuesdays, where kitchen chemistry meets fun in our FRANKE Kitchen. Included with admission while supplies last. Programs are subject to change.

  • March 4: Thumbprint Fossil Cookies
  • March 11: What’s Pi? Make a Pi Pie
  • March 18: Cookie Mining
  • March 25: Sedimentary Sandwiches

2. Turtle Talk  

Wednesdays and Fridays, 3:30 PM

Join Discovery Center staff for turtle feeding. Included with admission.

  • March 5/7: Why do these turtles sometimes sit under the light?
  • March 12/14: How far do turtles in the wild travel?
  • March 19/21: Can you tell if a turtle is old or young by looking at it?
  • March 26/28: How many toes do these turtles have?

3. Discovery Design Time

Thursdays,  4:00 PM

Every Thursday at 4 PM, step into the Discovery Center’s art studio to explore fun, hands-on art projects. Included with admission while supplies last. Programs are subject to change.

4. Campfire Storytime

Tuesday & Thursdays, 2:30

Campfire Storytime at the Discovery Center is more than just a storytelling session; it’s an immersive and educational experience that connects children with the wonders of nature and the joy of storytelling.

5. Investigation Station

T-F 11:30; Wednesday 4:00pm

Explore the wonders of science every Tuesday through Friday at 11:30 AM and Wednesday at 4:00 PM with our engaging Investigation Stations. Included with admission while supplies last. Programs are subject to change.

6. DC+ Days

Dr Seuss 

Sunday, March 2nd

Mark your calendars for a special DC+ Day celebrating the beloved stories of Dr. Seuss! Enjoy hands-on activities like decorating your Cat in the Hat hat, crafting your own green eggs and ham plate, and creating Tuffula Trees.

Pi Day

Friday, March 14th

Join us on Friday, March 14th, for a fun-filled DC+ Day dedicated to the mathematical magic of Pi! We’ll be making a delicious Pi Pie with the famous Oak Ridge Orchard Apple Pie, plus creating your very own Pi bracelet to take home! Throughout the day, learn all about Pi and its fascinating role in mathematics.

Nashville Opera

Saturday, March 15th

3:00-4:00pm

Experience opera like never before with a live performance of Goldie B. Locks & the Three Singing Bears! This exciting 40-minute show is perfect for kids and families, bringing together humor, music, and an important lesson about honesty.


7. Homeschool Learning Pods

Engineer a way to help water travel from a water source to a model town using the fun of tracks like a roller coaster.

Amazing Anatomy – Sea Urchin Dissection

Thursday, March 20th

3-4pm

Grades: 3rd+

Price*: $15/student; $10/chaperone

Become a biologist with the Discovery Center! These Learning Pods are designed for our older students to utilize tools and discover the inner workings of different organisms.


8. All Access Night

Thursday, March 13th

6:00pm

All Access Night at the Discovery Center is a sensory-friendly evening designed specifically for families with children who have special needs. Held monthly, this event offers exclusive access to the Discovery Center’s exhibits in a calm and welcoming environment. Children can explore, play, and engage in hands-on STEAM activities with smaller crowds and reduced sensory stimuli, making it an ideal opportunity for families to experience the museum at their own pace. Best of all, All Access Nights are free, but registration is required! Sponsored by SEC, Inc.


9. SPARK!

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

$4 per child ages 1+, Free for adults

This program is for children ages 1-6 and their caregivers to enjoy hands-on exploratory STEAM learning and play. Enjoy music and motion, stories, guided activities and more with Discovery Center staff! Sponsored by TDK.

10. March Into Arts

Saturday, March 22nd

Join us for March Into Arts, a free day featuring four artists running hands-on stations, a Musical Instrument Petting Zoo provided by Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as other live performances throughout the day. 


11. Artist In Residence

CatieBeth Thomas – Open Studio

Ever wonder how an artist brings their vision to life? Stop by the Open Studio at the Discovery Center on Friday, March 14th, 21st, and 28th from 10:30 AM to 1 PM, and see Artist in Residence CatieBeth Thomas in action! This is a rare chance to interact with the artist, ask questions, and watch her creative process unfold as she works on a unique piece for the Discovery Center.

The Discovery Center’s Artist in Residence, CatieBeth Thomas, will be leading In the Studio Friday, March 14th, 21st, and 28th from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Drop in for a hands-on art experience as part of our exciting six-week series where CatieBeth will be guiding guests through activities exploring different art techniques while they create their own unique pieces!
