Families can volunteer on a weekly basis if they want at Feed America First. Every Wednesday from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., all ages (with adult supervision) may volunteer to prepare food boxes. While you can come at any time, please do call ahead. Space varies week to week. They also host a few volunteer events every now and again as well as other weekly volunteer opportunities. Keep up with the latest ones at facebook.com/feedamerica1st. In addition to volunteering, fun events are great, too. The 'Boro Buggy Bash takes place Saturday, Sept. 8. It's Murfreesboro's first and only all-in-one competition. It's a fundraiser, food drive, relay race extravaganza. Teams of four – eight people compete by raising food and funds prior to the event. The day of the Bash, teams wear costumes and race a decorated buggy. With the food collected from the team’s food drive, teams race to different checkpoints. This whimsical food-sorting-relay-race features twists, turns, sabotages and surprises. Prizes are up for grabs, too. The race itself takes place at The Experience Community Church (521 Old Salem Road). Check-in is 8:30 a.m. followed by welcome, announcements and race rules at 9:30 a.m. The race kicks off at 10 a.m. Sign your team up FAST! Contact Julie at julievandel@feedamericafirst.com.

This new Southern Distribution Center seeks volunteers for food sorting. Ages 12 and older can volunteer Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. or Wednesdays from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Volunteers assist with evaluating, sorting and packing food donations from grocery stores, food drives and farms for distribution. Projects vary and may include packing food bags/boxes. It's a warehouse environment, too, so please dress appropriately for the environment and activities (closed-toe shoes are required). Volunteers under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or guardian sign the Youth Volunteer Waiver, too.
