A guide for parents looking for that nice, warm play spot for those cold, damp winter days.

As parents, sometimes it feels like there are very few places for our kids to let loose and play in a warm, dry, safe, clean, fun, indoor environment — especially on a rainy, cold, or snowy day. Fear not, there are plenty of local spots, whether you have a toddler or a teenagers, for kids to let out some energy indoor.

The museum features more than 175 hands-on interactive exhibits where kids can run around to their heart’s delights.

The Monkey’s Treehouse

Kids ages 0 – 8 can enjoy play passes, Mon – Fri from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Sat 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. based on availability. Book a spot for $4 for 30 mins per child ($24 minimum).

Rivergate Skate Center

Saturday skate for kids 8 and younger from 10 a.m. – 12 noon. Admission is $5 plus $3 skate rental. At noon the fee switches to $7, and kids can skate until 5 p.m. Family Night is Thursdays from 6 – 9 p.m. for $7 and skate rental is free.

Skate Center Smyrna

Thursday nights from 6 – 9 p.m. is Family Skate Night for $7 admission and free skate rental. Check the website for additional “Beginner Skates” and “Family Fun Skates.”

Open Gym is available Mondays at 11 a.m. for ages 0 – 5 for $10 per child with an adult required for participation. Also Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Ages 2 and older can come on the second and fourth Friday of the month from 6:30 – 8 p.m. for $10.

Open playtime for ages 5 – 14 is Saturdays from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. $10 per person.

Let It Shine
