After months of assessment, work and waiting, the Nashville Public Library has announced a tentative reopening date for the Main Library branch downtown.
The library has been closed since June 2025 after a fire in the parking garage forced the building’s closure.
There is now a tentative opening date for the main Nashville library location on 615 Church Street. It’s scheduled to reopen Monday, March 30. This is pending a final Fire Marshal and Metro Codes inspection required before Library staff can reoccupy the building.
All public areas of the main library — except for the Conference Center area, which sustained heavy soot and smoke damage in the fire — will be open to patrons. Not only can patrons visit the building, but visitors will be able to check out materials, sign up for library cards, browse the collection and use the library’s computers. Visitors will also be able to place holds on books and materials to be picked up at the Main Library on opening day.
What About Parking?
When it comes to parking, though, the Nashville Downtown Partnership — which operates the garage, though the garage itself is owned by the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure — are directing patrons to other parking locations. In the announcement, the NDP and staff with Parking Management Company encourage patrons to use the garage at 147 4th Avenue North.
