Don your work clothes and some gloves and get ready for Volunteer Day on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Historic Sam Davis Home & Plantation. If you’re looking to fill in some volunteer hours, now’s your chance. “Volunteers can be any age, but minors will need to be accompanied by an adult,” says Hannah Sanders, Director of Education at the Sam Davis Home. “Our Heritage Days (Sept. 28 – 29) is coming up, so a lot of the work will be preparing for that.”
Volunteer Work Needed
Volunteer to help clean out the barn. If you’re a handy-man, janitorial-type stuff can be done in some of the buildings. Help organize tasks and do other things, too. “We are still working on an exact list, but everything from yard work to emptying trash and cleaning is the help we need,” says Sanders. The seek people of all skills. Volunteer Day is from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. If you need to come late or leave early, that is absolutely fine them. A log is kept for all volunteers to sign in and out of, too. Pack a lunch to take with you, however water is provided. It is also recommend that you wear bug spray and sunscreen just in case you’re outside for a prolonged period of time.
If you or your group wants to sign up, e-mail Sanders at education@samdavishome.org to get a volunteer form to fill out and send back.
