Audition for Star Bright Players’ ‘School of Rock’

Rock got no reason, rock got no rhyme…You better get me to school on time!

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department’s youth theater group, the Star Bright Players, will hold open auditions on Saturday, February 25 for their early summer 2023 production, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock – The Musical, in collaboration with the Franklin Brentwood Arts Academy (FBAA).

About the show

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock – The Musical is a two-hour, two-act show (plus intermission), based on the hit movie. The tuner follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight–A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out?

The kids in this story are so real to me. They are trying to navigate the pressures and expectations society has placed on them, all the while trying to find out who they are,” said Director Blandina Vergara-Cruz. “I love that this story, even through its irreverence and insolence, preaches the power that music has to change lives and hearts, to bring people together and create unity.”

Auditions

Auditions for School of Rock – The Musical will be held on Saturday, February 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex at 1120 Hillsboro Road, Franklin, TN 37064. The production is open to ages 12-18.

Auditions will consist of a vocal performance, line reading from the script and a group choreography audition. Some roles include the ability to play a musical instrument and will require an additional instrumental audition; however, most roles in this production do not require any musical instrument skills.

Performances

The Star Bright Players will hold five performances of School of Rock – The Musical from June 8 to June 11 at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center at 112 Everbright Avenue, Franklin, TN 37064.

This production will include a small orchestral accompaniment ensemble along with the band of students that appear in the play. School of Rock – The Musical is being produced in collaboration with Franklin Brentwood Arts Academy. In addition to being the Student Band Sponsor for the production, FBAA will also be providing instruction to those cast in the student band through weekly rehearsals.
