Looking for a unique after-school program for your computer-loving kid? Check out Code Ninjas. This new after-school drop-in program is for computer-coding enthusiasts ages 7 – 14. The grand opening celebration is Saturday, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. “This concept of teaching kids to code is a new innovation and is most aptly described as a mix of tutoring systems and martial arts programs,” says Jeff James, owner of Code Ninjas. “It is vitally important for the youth of today to be provided ample opportunities to learn how to code. We want our students to have fun, but we also want them to take away crucial skills that will be valuable later in life,” he adds. The program uses a “belt program” to measure progress and includes a series of colored belts. Students start the program as a “white belt” and advance to colored belts as they master new skills and milestones. The kids spend an hour in the “computer dojo” twice a week. Code Ninjas is located at 1113 Murfreesboro Road, Franklin. Hours are Mon – Fri 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. and Sat 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Parents’ night out sessions are available on Saturday nights; drop off the kids for a few STEM-related hours.
