Where Every Family Matters

Dress like a Superhero on Free Comic Book Day

Comic book fans of all ages can rejoice as Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) returns to Rutherford County on Saturday, May 3rd.

Capes, masks, and secret identities are all welcome as Rutherford County libraries roll out the red carpet for Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 3rd!

Not only are free comic books up for grabs, but visitors can suit up as their favorite comic book characters. Whether you’re a brooding vigilante like the Dark Knight or a patriotic powerhouse like Captain America, this is your moment to shine — or at least to dramatically swish your cape while browsing the stacks. Costumes aren’t required, but let’s be real: everything’s more fun in a mask.

At Linebaugh Library in Murfreesboro, the comic giveaway will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with books available on a first-come, first-served basis. Over at the Smyrna Library, the action kicks off a bit earlier at 9 a.m. Both events are free and open to all ages, because heroes come in all sizes. Adding to the excitement in Smyrna, they will be showing Sonic the Hedgehog 3 at 2 p.m.

Free Comic Book Day began 23 years ago as a nationwide initiative to attract new readers to local and independent comic book shops. Since its inception, more than 2,000 stores across the country have participated in this celebration of graphic storytelling. The numbers continue to grow when you include partner libraries, which also join in on the fun by handing out free comics to the public.

The special Comic Book Day will also be celebrated at the Eagleville Bicentennial Library in Eagleville and the Myrtle Glanton Lord (MGL) Library, which is inside Patterson Park in Murfreesboro. Both of those locations will kick off the day at 10 a.m.

Whether you’re a seasoned collector or someone just discovering the world of comics, this free event is a fun and family-friendly way to dive into a new adventure. So dust off that cape, channel your inner Avenger and get ready to dive headfirst into adventure!
