Kids develop a strong understanding of the world around them through hands-on experiences — and the Discovery Center at Murfree Spring (502 SE Broad Street, Murfreesboro) is ready to provide them that opportunity next week during Engineer's Week.
Each year, National Engineer's Week shines the spotlight on the importance of learning math, science and technical skills. At the Discover Center, Engineers Week kicks off Monday, Feb. 17. Kids can stop by the Discovery Center all week long to design, build and test their own engineered creations.
Engineer Week also brings a unique workshops to the Discovery Center:
Paper Planet is a workshop for children in grades K – 5 with an adult. Kids and their adult partner will design, build and test an amusement park attraction for a new park called Paper Planet. Paper Planet workshops take place Monday, Feb. 17 from 2 – 3:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 2:30 – 4 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 20 (Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day) from 3:30 – 5 p.m. Cost: $2 per person plus general admission.
General admission to the Discovery Center at Murfree Springs is $8 for adults and children; ages 2 and younger are free. For more information, call 615-890-2300.
