Local author Jamie Sumner loves to celebrate the grit and beauty in people. And, as a special needs parent, she recognizes everyone's need for encouragement.
Sumner's new book — Eat, Sleep, Save the World: Words of Encouragement for the Special Needs Parent (B&H Books; 2020), aims to highlight the exceptional qualities parents of special needs children draw upon in order to care for their exceptional children.
On Thursday, March 5, come help Sumner launch her book at Draper James, located at 2608 12th Ave. S, Nashville from 12 – 2 p.m. Meet Sumner, get a signed copy of the new title and enjoy a custom cookie while you're there.
Sumner, who has a son with cerebral palsy, is an acclaimed writer and author. Her book for kids, Roll With It (Atheneum Books; 2019), is the story of a girl with cerebral palsy whose life takes an unexpected turn when she moves to a new town. A classroom discussion guide on exploring characters beyond their differences is available at Sumner's website, jamie-sumner.com/classroom-resources. Atheneum will be releasing additional books for kids from Sumner later this year and in 2021.
For adults, Sumner penned Unbound: Finding Freedom From Unrealistic Expectations of Motherhood (FaithWords; 2018), a work that helps women struggling with the pressures of motherhood through highlighting women of the Bible.
