The City of Gallatin is raising funds to support Wreaths Across America’s local effort. Wreaths Across America (WAA) is a national nonprofit event held each year with a goal of laying a wreath on the grave of every American veteran who died serving our country.
There will be a local remembrance ceremony held this year at the City Cemetery in Gallatin on National Wreaths Across America Day, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. Please visit the www.wreathsacrossamerica.org for more information on the organization and to learn about the group’s mission and how to get involved.
There are more than 600 veterans’ graves in the City Cemetery dating back to the Civil War. With support of the community through donations, the City will lay a wreath on each of these graves.
A $15 donation buys one wreath, or a $30 donation buys three wreaths. The live wreaths are delivered by volunteer truckers. On the day of the tribute, the wreaths are placed on the tombstones of the veterans and there is a short service – all open to the public. Wreaths Across America also donates wreaths to represent each branch of the service along with one for POWs and MIAs.
For those who wish to participate, checks can be made payable to “Wreaths Across America”. Corporate donations are greatly appreciated. Mail or deliver to:
Mayor’s Office
Attn: Wreaths Across America
132 West Main Street
Gallatin, TN 37066
The City will order as many wreaths as donations allow. Requests for donations to be in honor or memory of a veteran are welcome. For more information, please call the Mayor’s Office at 615-451-5961.
