Silhouettes of children are great, and I wish I had one for each of my kids. I missed the opportunity to have these treasured keepsakes made, but you don’t have to. On Wednesday, Sept. 20, third-generation silhouette artist, Erik Johnson, visits Brilliant Sky in Brentwood and will hand-cut silhouettes of kids. By appointment only, and in a matter of minutes, Johnson will capture the essence of your child with his scissors. Appointments are made in 15 minute slots — and only a few slots remain. Silhouettes cost $30; $15 duplicates (of the same child) are available, as is framing.
Long Before Cameras, There Was the Silhouette
Before the days of cameras, the silhouette reigned. A silhouette is the image of a person, animal or object, represented as a solid shape of a single color, usually black.
Erik Johnson’s family has been cutting silhouettes for more than 60 years. Erik learned the craft from his father.
