Where Every Family Matters

Harry Potter at Brentwood Library

Find out how Harry Potter's world is tied to scientific history.

The world’s most popular wizard, Harry Potter, has swooped into the Brentwood Library in the form of a six-banner traveling exhibit on display now through Saturday, Sept. 10.

Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic and Medicine explores the link between Harry’s wizarding world and the history of science. Developed by the National Library of Medicine, Natioanl Institutes of Health, the exhibit delves into eight area’s of the Harry Potter universe — Potions, Monsters, Herbology, Magical Creatures, Fantastic Beasts and Immortality. Each of these topics are ones explored by 15th- and 16th-century thinkers who played significant roles in the development of Western science, including alchemy, astrology and natural philosophy.

“We are excited to host this exhibit for our library community and the city of Brentwood,” says Norman Taulbee, community relations coordinator at Brentwood Library. “It’s a timely addition to the establishment of the Chamber of Knowledge Chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance,” he adds.
