Here’s Where to Canoe, Kayak & Splash Around with the Kids

Make a splash this summer and beat the heat with some water-filled fun! July is packed with kid-approved, splash-tastic events you won’t want to miss.

When Middle Tennessee turns up the heat, turn up the fun! Cool off with a scenic canoe trip or splash into excitement at a water event. Here’s where to canoe, kayak & splash around with the kids. Remember your floatation devices, towels, snacks, sunscreen and make a day of it.

Try something a little different … like canoeing the Caney!

BROKEN PADDLE

Canoe, kayak or tube from three locations on flat water: the Harpeth River from Bellevue; Drake’s Creek at Memorial Park in Hendersonville; or Lake Acorn boat rentals at Montgomery State Park in Burns for two, three or six-hour trips. CANOE THE CANEY

Four trips currently available in canoes or kayaks include a three-to-five hour excursion on the Caney Fork River; a Hidden Falls excursion for a six-mile round trip run on Center Hill Lake; a one-and-a-half hour excursion on the Caney; or an Upper Caney Lake (Center Hill) paddle of six-to-nine miles. CAP’N DAVE’S WATER SPORTS

Located on Percy Priest Lake, rent jet skis for one-to-two hours (maximum of two riders; must be 21 to rent, 18+ to operate); a SUP, single or double kayak, canoe or pedal boat. Book online or call 615-504-5352.

CUMBERLAND KAYAK

Kayak from four locations: the Cumberland River (Nashville Skyline route from Nashville’s Shelby Park to Nissan Stadium downtown); a 90-minute paddle from Center Hill Lake to Burgess Falls; a three-hour paddle from Center Hill Lake to Fancher Falls; or a one-to-two hour paddle around Percy Priest Lake. FOGGY BOTTOM CANOES

Located just outside of Kingston Springs, enjoy an experience on the Harpeth River. This family-owned outfitter rents canoes and kayaks for five-mile trips that last two hours or longer. To book, call 615-952-4062.

SUNSHINE ADVENTURES

Tube a three-mile Nashville route from Newsom’s Mill to Hidden Lake State Park. Tubes include back rests and cup holders. Enjoy linking straps and optional paddles.

TIP-A-CANOE

Located on the Harpeth River in Kingston Springs, this outfitter has been family owned and operated since 1972. Choose two-and-a-half, three-and-a-half or four-and-a-half trips by canoe or kayak. There are no age limits, but you must be able to walk. Bring a life jacket for children under 30 lbs; all children 12 and younger must wear one.
