Music-and-movement classes for parents and tots continue to grow in popularity, and one of the leading programs is the international Kindermusik program.
Locally, the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt leads the way as Kindermusik International recognizes it as one of the top “Maestro” programs in the country.
“Every activity in every lesson has a specific developmental purpose and benefit,” says Amy Alley, the Blair School’s Kindermusik educator of 15 years.
Blair has a brand-new Kindermusik class for babies 12 months and younger called Cuddle and Bounce. Designed for new parents and their infants, participants can enjoy the wonders of music with parenting resources based on recent baby development research. Fifteen-week classes available in spring and fall are $380, and there’s a five-week summer session starting Wednesday, June 15 from 12:45 – 1:30 p.m. that’s $160.
There are five other Kindermusik classes also starting in mid-June for five-week sessions at the same $160 price: Peekaboo, I Love You! (18 months and younger); Beach Days! (18 months – 3 years); Creatures of the Ocean! (2 – 3 years); Family Time Zoo Train! (multi-age class); and Drums, Drums, Drums! (3 – 5 years).
