MOVE Inclusive Dance Opens Aug. 26

A new studio in Bellevue uses the power of dance to transform the lives of individuals with special needs.

There's a brand-new dance studio opening in Bellevue at the end of August with a special focus on serving the special needs community. MOVE Inclusive Dance is a dance studio for individuals of all ages with special needs.

"We have classes for individuals of all ages," says Lauren Beasley, founder and executive director. "Our schedule covers classes of all dance genres, plus music therapy classes for kids, adults and caregivers," she adds.

MOVE INCLUSIVE DANCE CLASS OFFERINGS

BALLET
Tuesdays 4 – 4:45 p.m. (ages 4 – 6)

Dancers will learn classic ballet technique in this class, from alignment to positions of feet. 

LYRICAL
Tuesdays 10 – 10:45 a.m. (ages 13+)
Saturdays 9 – 9:45 a.m. (ages 7 – 12)

A more contemporary approach to ballet, this class uses smooth, flowy movements inspired by lyrics to create the dance form.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Tuesdays 5 – 5:45 (all ages)
Wednesdays 6 – 6:45 (all ages)

Dancers will be exposed to the main elements of dance (space, energy, time, body) while strengthening social skills, adaptability of movement and creative thinking.

STRENGTH & FLEXIBILITY
Thursdays 10  – 10:45 a.m. (ages 13+)

This class will enhance gross motor skills, build flexibility, and strengthen muscles while working on specific skills and techniques. It incorporates yoga and pilates.

GROOVY MOVES
Tuesdays 11 – 11:45 a.m. (ages 13+)
Wednesdays 4 – 4:45 p.m. (ages 4 – 6)
Thursdays 5 – 5:45 p.m. (ages 13+)

Influenced by the groovy moves of hip hop and funky jazz, dancers can enjoy a high-energy class.

MUSICAL THEATER
Tuesdays 6 – 6:45 p.m. (all ages)
Fridays 4 – 4:45 p.m. (ages 4 – 12)

This is a dance class perfect for those who love Broadway musicals.

MOVE WITH ME!
Mondays 5 – 5:45 p.m. (ages 7 -12 with and without special needs)
Thursdays 4 – 4:45 p.m. (all ages with and without special needs)
Saturdays 11 – 11:45 a.m. (ages 13+ with and without special needs)

This class is designed for people of all ability levels. Students will experience all dance genres in this class, from ballet to hip hop. Students are encouraged to bring someone they know to dance with them — siblings, friends, etc.

POM
Mondays 6 – 6:45 p.m. (ages 13+)

Dancers will learn the ins and outs of basic pom and cheer movement.

MUSIC THERAPY
Wednesdays 5 – 5:45 p.m. (ages 6 – 12)
Thursdays 11 – 11:45 a.m. (ages 0 – 5 with a parent; with and without special needs)
Thursdays 6 – 6:45 p.m. (ages 13+)

Students will be exposed to developmentally appropriate concepts of music and music making that involves social skills, self-expression, gaining independence and relaxation. 

HIP HOP
Mondays 4 – 7:45 p.m. (ages 13+)

Wednesdays 7 – 7:45 p.m. (ages 18+)
Fridays 5 – 5:45 p.m. (ages 4 – 12)
Saturdays 10 – 10:45 a.m. (ages 13 – 17)

Dancers can bust a move to hit songs in this class that covers the basics of hip hop while incorporating the latest and trendiest moves out there.

WHEELCHAIR DANCE
Mondays 4 – 4:45 p.m. (all ages)

This class is designed specifically for individuals who have a physical disability and use a wheelchair.

Tuition fees are based on the total number of weekly classes you sign up for. One 45-minute class per week is $65 per month.

MOVE Inclusive Dance hosts an open house Aug. 26 – 31 at the following times: Mon/Wed/Fri 2 – 7:30 p.m.; Tue/Thu 10 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.; Sat 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

"Guests will get a tour of the studio ane meet our teachers and staff to ask any questions before they register," says Beasley. "Classes will begin the following week after Labor Day and will run with the calendar school year [September – May]. All students who enroll in our 209 – 2020 year will be invited to perform in our end-of-the-year show in June," she adds.
