BMX is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. In fact, it became an Olympic sport in 2008. Your family can participate in the bike-racing sport here in Middle Tennessee with Music City BMX.
Music City BMX hosts practices and races at Hamilton Creek Park (2901 Bell Road, Nashville). Boy and girl are put into age-specific groupings and skill levels to compete in three-lap races around a quarter-mile dirt and asphalt track. The track boasts jumps, roller and banked corners to heighten the action.
Little kids as young as 2 years old can get in on the fun, too. They don't need to know how to pedal a bike; they can participate using balance bikes or striders. Parents can ride as well.
"The kids have a great camaraderie rather than pitting one against another," says Robin Atwood of Music City BMX. "There are great physical benefits, too. It's a great cardio workout that builds lower body and core strength while teaching excellent hand-eye coordination," Atwood adds.
