Where Every Family Matters

Nashville Public Library’s “Picnic with the Library”

Follow the yellow brick road to the downtown Main Library and celebrate children’s programming at Nashville Public Library on April 28! Tickets available March 7.

The 9th annual Picnic with the Library event, hosted by the Nashville Public Library Foundation (NPLF), takes place on Sunday, April 28 at the Main Library Branch downtown.

Co-chaired by Caroline and Rascoe Dean, Tiffany and Alfred Degrafinreid and Lindsay and Tyson Moore, the Picnic will be themed around The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, following the yellow brick road with Dorothy and friends to “The Emerald City,” bringing this classic tale to life for children of all ages.

The afternoon of family-friendly fun, available by purchasing a picnic basket package, features story times from Wishing Chair Productions, family photos, face painting, music, crafts, dinner, cocktails and more. Guests will also have the chance to interact with beloved book characters such as Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Lion.

NEW! Win a Puppet Truck Performance?

New this year, everyone who purchases a ticket will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a private Puppet Truck performance. NPL’s Puppet Truck brings stories to life through music, songs, and puppetry. Picnic with the Library offers an exclusive opportunity to reserve the truck for a private event of your choosing and cannot be reserved any other way.

“We are excited to announce our esteemed group of co-chairs for 2024 as we make plans for this beloved annual celebration,” said Shawn Bakker, president of NPLF. “Their deep commitment to advancing NPLF’s mission is so inspiring and appreciated. We look forward to uniting with Nashville families in a delightful Wizard of Oz celebration, where their support will contribute to the promotion of early literacy and Nashville Public Library programs.”
