Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 14, because it’s Portland’s biggest day of the year in celebration of all-things STRAWBERRY!
This year mark’s the 75th anniversary of the Middle Tennessee Strawberry Festival located in downtown Portland. This year’s theme is “There’s No Place Like Home.”
You can kick off the day by participating in the Strawberry Stride 5K starting at 8 a.m. at Portland High School — register at active.com by Friday, May 13 (it’s $25 for the 5K, $15 for a one-mile and $10 for the kids’ fun run).
The main festival downtown starts at 10 a.m., and festivities include a pancake breakfast, more than 100 vendors, more fresh strawberries than you can imagine, games, contests, live music and the popular spot for little ones: Kid Town USA where kids can play all day long for $5 (inflatables, carnival games and more).
The strawberry-themed parade starts at 4 p.m., and this year’s festival features two new things — a Grand Marshal dinner in the evening and country artist Ronnie McDowell plays a free concert starting at 7 p.m. followed by fireworks.
