New Long Hunter Story Trail

A new attractions for kids at this local state park combines reading and physical activity.

The new Reading Ranger Story Trail opens this month at Long Hunter State Park. On Saturday, June 25, the park unveils its new feature by combining outdoor exercise and a children’s book.

The first book selection is Marianne Berkes’ Over in the Forest: Come and Take a Peek. Along the trail, Jill Dubin’s artwork from the book is strategically placed, revealing more of the story about baby animals and their parents at each stop.

The trail is located in Area 2, and on opening day, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., kids can also enjoy a variety of hands-on activities and crafts. The Reading Ranger Story Trail is accessible daily during the park’s hours, 7 a.m. – sunset.

Long Hunter State Park is located at 2910 Hobson Park, Hermitage.
