The City of Murfreesboro and State Transportation officials, along with elected officers, will gather to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Murfreesboro Transit Center.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, at the intersection of New Salem Hwy and Bridge Ave (324 New Salem Hwy).

The City of Murfreesboro has been awarded $9 million in Tennessee Improve Act funds in three separate awards from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) for the Murfreesboro Transit Center. The City’s local required matching funds for the project from the 2019 and 2022 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) is $2.8 million. Federal funding for the project is more than $5 million.

The City received bids in August for the construction phase of the project and was awarded to Franklin-based Rock City Construction.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be televised by CityTV. Murfreesboro CityTV can be found on Comcast Xfinity Channel 3 and 1094, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, YouTube, and the City website https://www.murfreesborotn.gov/citytv.
