Salt spas are gaining in popularity in the U.S., and there’s a new spot in Hendersonville offering a place where you can breathe in salty air.

SaltMed Spa of Hendersonville is the latest location in Middle Tennessee to offer Halotherapy, a form of alternative medicine that makes use of salt. Halotherapy was discovered in the 1800s by Polish miners who realized their frequent exposure to salt miles had positive results in their skin and respiratory health. Modern-day halotherapy reproduces the effects of long-term exposure by condensing it to 45-minute sessions.

Salt therapy can help skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema, and it is said to help respiratory ailments like colds, asthma, allergies and bronchitis. A halotherapy room features salt-coated walls and ceiling with a few inches of grains on the floor. You can relax in a lounge chair and allowing your skin to get exposure to the concentration of salt in the air that you’re also breathing.

SaltMed Spa also has a special salt room just for kids featuring a play area with toys, a TV and a salt floor to play in. Children as young as 6 months old can benefit from the salt room, and some parents find it helps when irrigating the nasal passages is necessary.

Single sessions for adults are $45; $25 for children ages 12 and younger. In addition, SaltMed Spa also provides other spa services like HydraFacials, massage services, waxing and more.

SaltMed Spa is located at 393 E. Main St., Ste. V. Call 615-824-7258 or visit saltmedspa.com.
