PENCIL Hosts Outdoor Pep Rally at First Horizon Park in Celebration of MNPS Teachers

The goal of the pep rally on Aug. 2 is to celebrate and appreciate teachers as they prepare for the 2021-2022 school year.

On the evening of Monday, August 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Metro Nashville Public School classroom teachers are invited to attend PENCIL’s Together 4 Teachers Outdoor Pep Rally at First Horizon Park where they’ll collect their supply bags, enjoy music, activities, stadium snacks and more, alongside their colleagues and peers before the school year begins on August 10.

PENCIL, an organization linking community resources to Metro Nashville Public Schools, is hosting its annual Together 4 Teachers campaign in advance of the upcoming school year. The program was created in collaboration with Director of Schools, Dr. Adrienne Battle. This special project brings the Nashville community together to ensure every classroom teacher in MNPS has access to a tote bag filled with high-need supplies.

“Great teachers make all the difference, and I’m really looking forward to seeing thousands of our teachers in one place for a pep rally to kick off the new school year,” Director of Schools Dr. Adrienne Battle said. “MNPS teachers are so dedicated to seeing their students learn, thrive, and succeed. Thank you to the great team at PENCIL for bringing supplies for all of our teachers and offering this opportunity to get together and celebrate the crucial work they do.”

Joining Dr. Battle on stage during the evening’s program are members of the PENCIL Leadership team including Board Chair Norman Merrifield, Together 4 Teachers Co-Chairs Robyn Williams & John Doerge and—from Pep Rally presenting sponsor, First Horizon Bank—Herman Hicks. Other speakers include Courtney Ross of Amazon and Cindy Pryor of Dollar General as T4T Lead Sponsors, Greg Allen of Cigna and Ana Schwager of Southwest Airlines.

Nashville’s pro sports teams have stepped up in support of Metro teachers as well. Brandon Hill of Nashville Soccer Club, Rebecca King of Nashville Predators, Susanna Adams of Tennessee Titans, and Danielle Gaw of Nashville Sounds will be unveiling a video cheering on our teachers and announcing additional game day appreciation for this Fall.

“PENCIL is excited about the opportunity we have to gather MNPS teachers together in celebration and preparation for what is sure to be an incredible school year," PENCIL President & CEO Angie Adams shares. "As an organization, getting necessary supplies into the hands of educators and students is a priority of ours. We’re grateful for active PENCIL Partners that have made this important project possible and look forward to a night of appreciation for our teachers at First Horizon Park.”
