Where Every Family Matters

Rec Youth Soccer at the “Y”

What kid doesn’t love playing with a ball?!
Spring soccer season is right around the corner, so it’s time for you to sign up the kids! Youth recreational soccer is offered through the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, with spring games slated to begin in early March. In general, kids love being a part of a team. With soccer, they’ll learn to dribble, pass, shoot goals and more while you’ll enjoy hanging out with other parents at the soccer fields during weekly practices and Saturday games.

“Rec” vs. “Select”

If your child’s just starting out in sports, recreational soccer is for him. Rec soccer is the first step toward discovering your child’s affinity for the sport. Before a kid can try out for a travel (select) soccer team, he needs to master certain foot skills and more. That’s why the “Y”‘s program for beginning soccer is so great. It makes for a fun, learning environment where friendships bloom and the pressure to perform is a lot less than on a travel team.
Registration for ages 3 – 14 (for the season running Feb. 26 – May 19) is open through Monday, January 22 for $86 a player. Late registration is $106. Players of all ages and abilities are needed.
The YMCA now uses reversible jerseys, eliminating the uniform cost from registration. Learn what this means for your child here.
